East View Geospatial Becomes Official Distributor for NGA, NOAA, CHS, JHA and LINZ Nautical Charts
MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, USA – November 28, 2012 – In a continued effort to bring the nautical community novel and updated charts, East View Geospatial (EVG) is proud to announce the recent signings of distribution contracts with the Canadian Hydrographic Service (CHS), the Japanese Hydrographic Association (JHA), the U.S. National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) , and Land Information New Zealand (LINZ). These signings are reflective of EVG’s growing network of formal relationships with national mapping agencies around the world.
Nautical charts from these agencies are well-suited for research and bathymetric purposes as well as navigation aids. The charts are the most recent and up-to-date available and all the latest Notice to Mariners (NTMs) have been applied by their respective agencies. Trent Stromberg, EVG’s Director of Business Development and Customer Relations and momentum behind these signing achievements, shared “not only does EVG see a need for nautical charts in the research and academic communities; we see a need in the maritime community for updated information. EVG Founder and CEO, Kent D. Lee, added “Nautical charts and other oceanographic geospatial data are still too difficult to purchase for the average customer. It’s a big area of flux. Many traditional users, especially naval organizations and commercial maritime users, have moved to digital navigational aids. At the same time customers with non-navigational interests have greater need for authoritative data over the world’s oceans, seas, rivers, and other water bodies. Academic research interest in climate change, boundary disputes, coastal monitoring and so on is a great driving force in this area, as is the need by commercial actors such as oil, gas, mining and wind energy planners. And most of these users also want a digital data experience using open GIS tools, not proprietary navigation systems. EVG is doing its best to reconcile the use cases of these new customers with the natural interests and traditional business models of the producing authorities, who are typically governmental hydrographic agencies whose budgets are under attack from many angles. Representing the full spectrum of paper products with these agencies is a good way to build trust and familiarity as we move towards comprehensive digital and paper relationships.”
